ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Communication

Communication between the school district and parents has been an important issue to me. When I first began my term on the board, I expressed the desire to stream our meetings so that the public would be able to see the work we are doing even if they cannot make time to attend meetings in person. The board and administration worked things out, and we were able to get streaming in place before the pandemic hit. Additionally, we have worked to improve the amount and quality of communication that comes from the district. This will continue to be a focus, as there is still room for improvement, but it’s been great to see our communications department grow and better share all of the good news from our schools!

Board of Directors

In January of 2022, I was elected to the Board of Directors for the Utah School Boards Association (USBA). All 41 Utah school districts are a part of USBA, and I feel blessed to be able to be one of 24 members of this board as we work together to support the work of local school boards.

At our first Board of Directors meeting, I was elected to also be on the Executive Committee, which means I get to work closely with the USBA president, president elect, vice president, and a couple of other key leaders.

Members of the board of directors also serve on the USBA Joint Legislative Committee. We meet weekly during the Utah legislative session to discuss bills that affect education and to decide what position USBA will take on those bills. Being on the USBA board of directors is a wonderful learning opportunity for me, and I hope to be able to continue to serve there.

Committee Work

Each board member works with different committees or community organizations as part of our responsibilities. I have worked with the district-level PTA, the Provo City School District Foundation board, the school district’s kindness committee, participated in the district liaison committee (which brings district staff and teacher and support staff leadership together), and recently served on the Wasatch and Shoreline rebuild committees.
