About Me

Background

Hello! I'm Jennifer. I grew up in Colorado and Florida but have lived in Provo for 25 years now and love it here. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, and I graduated from BYU with my degree in Elementary Education. I taught fourth grade at Westridge Elementary as an intern but did not continue teaching because my husband and I started our family.

I got involved with the PTA when my oldest was just starting elementary school. I was blessed to serve as the Provost Elementary PTA president when I had a 3rd grader, first grader, preschooler, and toddler. I loved working closely with our school administration and teachers, knowing that what I was doing made a difference. Several years later I served as the district-level PTA president, where I enjoyed getting to know more about education at the district level. I was also a member of the Facilities Advisory Committee (FAC), and was asked to lead that group as we studied reports of PCSD's old buildings and made a recommendation to the school board to rebuild them. That process led to the 2014 bond election where over 70% of the voters approved a bond to rebuild Provo High and 4 elementary schools.

I continued to stay involved with the district PTA, and in 2018 I was elected to my first term on the Provo School Board. I have enjoyed collaborating with the other board members, as well as district administration and staff to serve our students and teachers. I attend most of the PTA and School Community Council meetings for Spring Creek, Provost, and Provo Peaks, where I share updates and try to learn the needs of our schools, teachers, and students.

Personal

My husband, Ryan, and I have 4 children, ages 12-20. They have lived their entire lives in Provo and have attended Provo schools. I am enjoying this stage of life, celebrating the people they are becoming and watching band concerts, swim meets, theater productions, and more.

I am passionate about kindness and am involved in many efforts to increase connection in our community. We have so much more in common with one another than the perceived labels we allow to divide us. There are many great things about Provo, and I hope we can work together as individuals and neighborhoods to build upon them and make things even better. We are stronger when we unite, appreciate diversity, work to understand differing viewpoints, and bring everyone together to create something wonderful!
